Three months after ATOO FM, TWR Sifa’s station in Kakuma started broadcasting, hundreds of Turkana West residents have a reason to smile!
The residents, who are now faithful listeners of our radio programs, are now forming a listeners group that will unite and later become a SACCO for boosting their incomes. The group consists of refugees living in Kakuma Refugees Camps, Kalobeyei settlement scheme and locals who aim to establish a mutual working relationship amongst themselves. An objective of the group is to be ambassadors of ATOO SIFA 90.7FM.
Members of Atoo Sifa, 90.7FM listeners' club together with two of our staff
After their first meeting on 17th of January 2021, they pledged their loyalty to ATOO SIFA 90.7FM, in what they termed as the only radio that has suitable programs and professional radio presenters. According to Hudson Muniafu, one of Atoo Sifa top fans who initiated the meeting, the aim was to unite all listeners through face-to-face introduction before embarking on real issues the next month. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only 12 listeners could attend the meeting but, the listeners have since formed a WhatsApp group of twenty, adding other members as they discover each other.
The meeting was attended by our two presenters Mike Kwena and Reginah Mwanza. It also gave the listeners a platform to air their views on our radio programs and what changes they would like to see. The listeners have asked for extension of live broadcast duration to 10.00pm this is following our earlier schedule that was ending at 8.00pm. We thank God that their plea came at a time when ATOO SIFA 90.7FM had already rescheduled programs to start at 6.00am and end at 9.00pm.
Ever since the meeting took place, there has been a notable increase of interaction of listeners with most of them calling in during live sessions.
