Mkomani area in Lamu is where TWR Kenya’s SIFA FM Lamu station is located. This area has been experiencing extreme power fluctuation for a long time and on the 27th of December, at around 7:45pm, a big fire broke out on the premises.
Fire in the building housing Sifa FM Lamu
It ravaged walls of the building housing Sifa Lamu and by God’s grace it did not spread to the first floor where Sifa FM offices are located.

It was indeed a miracle as the as the landlady’s bedroom, where Sifa Lamu’s studio aerial and cables run across the roof, was also not razed down by the fire. The only damage to Sifa Lamu was that a small section of the reception area and the Station Managers office were weakened as a result of the impact of the fire. Everything thing else was intact.

It was later established that the fire was caused by an electrical fault due to extreme power fluctuation. Since the owner of the building had lodged a case in court against the Power and Lighting Company Sifa Lamu had to wait for investigations to take place before resuming normal broadcasting. The police officers also warned Sifa Lamu staff to stay off until the walls of the upper building are brought down.

We thank God that after being off air for a while, the station managed to go back on air. This was after altering operations thrice due to a destabilized signal and noise from the builders on the second floor, where reconstruction work was taking place.
Sifa FM Station was established in Lamu in 2012 and despite numerous challenges from insecurity to the recent fire the station has continued to broadcast by God’s grace and protection.
