I don’t know when was the last time you carried a heavy load? How did you feel when you got the opportunity to put it down? I remember the days I was in school and I would have so many books to carry back home because of assignments. My back would slant forward and by the end of the day my shoulders would ache, I could hardly wait to get home and just put the bag down.
I can only imagine how it would feel if I had to constantly carry the luggage without having the time to put it down. If we haven’t accepted Christ into our lives, then what we are doing is carrying the burden of sin everywhere we go. It’s like a ship in the sea; never knowing if it will get the opportunity to anchor at the harbor anytime soon.
Scripture says that we cast our burdens onto him.
1 peter chapter 5:7
casting all your burdens upon him for he cares for you. It’s interesting that it says cast; cast is defined as, to throw something forcefully in a specified direction. That’s what Christ wants you and me to do with our burdens.
Imagine the amount of force used when putting something somewhere without doubt or second guessing yourself. Reason being you’re sure that it’s the right thing to do and you could hardly wait but to put that specific thing away.
Mathew 11; 30 reminds us why we should cast our burdens upon Christ.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Mathew 11:30
Jesus is asking that we be courageous enough and bring all that is bothering us to him. His yoke is easy and his burden is light. Stop insisting on carrying what life throws your way.
I pray that we shall lay it all at the feet of the master. He asked and is expecting us to do so. Walk in freedom.
