Pastor John Ngugi with Geoffrey Otieno of TWR Kenya
Early this week as I went on minding my daily undertakings at the Audience Relations Department, I was informed that there is a someone waiting to see me. Walking to the reception, I met this middle aged, friendly looking man donned in an polka flowered shirt. As I stretched my hand to greet him and introduce the smile got broader brightened by his big diastema.
We easily connected like those who had met before and I got the urge to want to know more about him and his connection to Trans World Radio Kenya and I will share his testimony through the responses he gave my questions.
"Welcome to Trans World Radio Kenya, am Geoffrey and you are? Thank you am Pastor John Ngugi, Senior pastor with the Full Gospel Church in Nairobi.
Thanks, how can I be of help today? Well I have been tasked by our church to get bibles for the congregation because the need is huge so upon inquiry I was directed by a friend to come here although Trans World Radio Kenya is not new to me.
Wow! You been directed to the right place, but you said Trans World is not new to you, please can you tell me about that connection? Its long story but I allow me to summarize it……. (Ok)… I was brought up in a Christian family in Ndaragua division in Nyandarua County. Therefore, I grew up knowing the Lord but things started changing when I was 15 years after I lost my father then 3 years later my mother died so at 18 I was a total orphan living in a child headed family. I became the family breadwinner despite being the fourth born in an extended family.
What happened next? Despite the family challenges, I got a rare opportunity to continue with my education after the school enrolled me for a bursary program. I was only required to pay a small percentage, and that meant that I had to go school at the same time do odd jobs. Being a teenager coupled with the life frustrations and l lacking parental guidance, I gave in to peer pressure I fully unashamedly embraced a sinful life. I got involved in all bad boys activities, got involved in drugs and substance abuse and even stopped shaving my hair and grew long dreadlocks. One strange thing about all these was that as I continued to face these challenges I still loved listening to the Word of God on Radio. I did all that I could to ensure that I do not miss Pastor Githumbi Maina and later Pastor Geoffrey Wanjala Munialo who were taking us for a journey through the bible through a program called Neno Litaendelea ( Thru The Bible Swahili).
The financial challenges kept on increasing; I also kept on following the Radio sermons and slowly by slowly my life started changing. One by one, I started to drop my bad habits. At this time, I felt like the sermons were being directed to me because they were telling things I needed to hear most. That is giving me hope & encouragement.
One day in the mid 90's the conviction got stronger, I went to church and surrendered my life, and I have never regretted that decision.I had never imagined that I would be a Pastor, am truely blessed and I have dedicated my life into fulltime ministry and the Lord has graciously provided for my family and me.
Me: Amazing testimony Pastor, thanks for sharing.
