The song In Christ Alone, my Hope is Found was the theme song during the Lausanne Conference on World Evangelization held in Cape Town in 2010. It is a song that I love and continue to sing. Our Hope in Christ is secure. It is secure even when circumstances tell a different story. My husband always reminds us of this song that says in part. “I don’t know what’s around the corner Lord, but I know that you will be there.”
In our Land of Kenya today we are faced with a political crisis. The supreme court annulled presidential elections and called for fresh elections scheduled for the 26th of October. But before we even get to the polls, the opposition leader who prevailed upon the court to annul the elections has withdrawn from the race. His supporters are on the streets protesting against the electoral body. Will there be an election? What will be the outcome and will it be contested again?
More than any other time in our elections cycle, the body of Christ really rose up in prayer for peace before these elections. We at TWR-Kenya partnered withNational Commission for Integration and Cohesion (NCIC) to organize a prayer walk one month to the elections. This was just one of the many. Many ministries and Christians from all walks of life have been praying for our land. Some in caves, in prayer retreats and mountains in prayer and fasting.
Looking around the world, we realize Kenya is not the only Country in need of divine intervention. There seems to be trouble everywhere. From terrorist attacks in the U.K and France to racial conflicts in the U.S. to hurricanes and earth quakes, one would be tempted to ask: where is God. Have we prayed for nothing? Reminds me of a book I read a while back entitled “How could God let this Happen?” While we cannot to understand God’s ways which the Bible reminds us are not our ways nor His thoughts which are higher than others.
I recently met a lady at immigration department and we got talking about our current situation. I told her I have opted not to watch news to preserve my sanity. She encouraged to watch and take each disturbing item as a prayer item. This is what she does and she has such hope and confidence in God.
Are you worried about something? Do you feel like you are going through your situation alone? Like God is not there? What is stealing your peace? Have you called and feel like God is not answering? Are you down cast? Are you seeking for hope in the wrong places?
Our Hope and confidence can only come from the word of God.
Matthew 6: 31-33 reminds us: “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘ What shall we eat?’ or ‘what shall we drink?’ or ‘what shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For our heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Isaiah 43:2 reminds us “when you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
Isaiah 55:8-9 “ Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, Here I am.’
And I end with Psalms 43: 5 “ Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my savior and my God.
