Matthew (not his real name) has been an occasional listener of Transworld Radio Kenya. A few months ago he requested us to pray for him and a lady he was interested in. At the time he did not share the exact details of the relationship but we prayed with him regardless. During the Easter break, he shared with us his testimony of an answered prayer.
“Good afternoon and praise God, I trust that you're good by the grace of God. Allow me to share my testimony.
The Bible says that he causes all things to work out for good to those who love him and are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28. Well, I was to wed 2016 but a few weeks to the big day I had no peace at all and the more the day neared the more restless I became.
We (my Fiancé and I) were advised by my pastor to postpone the wedding first we pray about it and to go to the lady's pastor to talk to him about it coz he was the one who was to officiate. When we went to the pastor -who was not easily found coz of his busy schedule- and personally told him how I was feeling and that I could not wed that time, the pastor first talked with the lady alone in the office and then called me in the office. He brought both of us together for a joint counselling session.
The pastor told my fiancé that I'm not the right person for her and that if I do not marry her on the said date she should never allow me back into her life. Sadly, my fiancé took the advice of the pastor and even declared in front of a church elder that she did away with me and cancelled the wedding.
I took some time to figure things out and once I felt at peace I decided to reach out to her and reconcile. My efforts bore no fruit. She blocked my phone number, I tried using her friends and relatives but she refused to meet me or even have a sit down with me. I also reached out to my pastor to help me but he simply said it was not possible.
Before we broke off the engagement, I had given her the liberty to choose the best couple for us. She chose pastors and I was very excited about that. However, with time I was disappointed with them. They were very traditional and I personally did not ascribe to my traditions, I desired a church wedding and process. By the time we were cancelling the wedding, we also had to cancel those traditional ceremonies which was a relief.
I was very bitter but God dealt with me properly. It was not an easy process. I had let her go and accept that I loved her so much but it was not going to work out. I used to cry a lot in pain thinking about what happened and what could have been.
It took me two years to fully let go and with the help of another pastor and elder from church, I was able to get back on my feet again. They walked with me and prayed with me. Many times I would wonder why this was happening to me yet I was serving in the Sunday school ministry for a long time.
By the grace of God, I got a job with the Teachers Service Commission in Kenya, a job I never applied for. God’s favor was still with me. Soon thereafter, God opened another door for me. I met another lady during a church prayer fellowship in a different assembly with the one I belong to.
I am thrilled to say that we're planning to get married later this year and I can assure you that our God is gracious and faithful. During the terrible season, I had asked you to stand with me in prayer that God may heal my heart and provide a life partner. At the time I asked you to pray that we reconcile with the other lady but God did even better.
Truly, the morning star appears at the darkest point of the night, right before dawn. Jesus Christ is our morning star. When the world reaches its darkest point, Jesus Christ will return in a burst of light and change everything. No matter how dark your life feels, find hope in the return of the Morning Star and the new dawn that will follow when the kingdom of heaven is fully realized on earth. Revelation 2:28
Thank you for your ministry and standing with me in prayer. Please keep us and our wedding plans in your prayers.”
