15 Million primary and secondary school learners were suddenly sent home following the closure of all learning institutions in line with the Presidential directive on containment of the Corona Virus pandemic after the country recorded its first infections.
With this unprecedented move, early this week the Ministry of Education announced that its stepping up measures to facilitate learning during this period that learners are at home. Beginning Monday 23rd March, the Ministry will enhance curriculum delivery through Radio, TV, You Tube and the Kenya Education Cloud.
Through the educational content generated by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development – (KICD) that has been offering Radio lessons since the 1970’s.
In a Press Release sent to newsrooms by the Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha, stated that The National Broadcaster’s Swahili Service – Radio Taifa will run lessons from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The English Service will run from 9:15 a.m. to 12 o’clock and from 2 pm to 4:00 pm. Trans World Radio Kenya & Iftini FM will also run the broadcasts to help reach learners in Garissa, Mandera and Wajir.
For TV broadcast lessons, the ministry will be broadcasting lessons on the KICD owned Edu Channel, which is available on the Signet free-to-air channel.
Learners will also be able to get the lessons through the Education TV Kenya You Tube Channel while KICD approved materials will be made available the Kenya Education Cloud through www.kec.ac.ke

The CS also asked parents to ensure that the Children remain at home in line with the Presidential directive in containing the sperad of Corona Virus adding that the ministry will contunue to work will all goverment agencies during this period.
