Impact of the Bible Stories Alive Children's Program in Marsabit

“I believe since they began listening to the program, they have both developed an amazing passion for the word of God. I have also been teaching them to memorize scriptures and they have been doing well. Sometimes they ask me questions about bible stories and when I ask them how they knew it, they would say that they heard the story on Sifa FM Marsabit”

As the school holiday curtains rise, the grip of the Bible Story Alive program is firmly felt amongst the children. A week ago I visited the Gombo village in the Dirib area of rural Marsabit County about 15 kilometres southeast of Marsabit town.

I sought to know the impact of the children’s program and to my amazement, I met numerous children who could give an astounding chronologic narration of some Bible Stories that we aired earlier on the radio. Among them all, three children stood out.

Sifa Fm Marsabit presenter/producer: Mathew Wario Fayo(Left)& Guyo Qoto 11yrs (Right) receiving a radio gift at Sifa FM Marsabit office.

Guyo Qoto 11yrs, Darmi Halakhe 9yrs and Boke Guyo 12yrs are all staunch BSA program followers. Their parents testified how they faithfully followed the program every single Saturday.

Fatuma Guyo Halakhe, mother to Darmi Guyo mentioned that her daughter’s day always turned gloomy whenever she missed the program.

“Her passion turns dramatic when she narrates to other children about what she learnt from the program” Fatuma.

When Fatuma noticed her daughters love for the program she decided to give her ample time every Saturday, to listen to the program through her phone.

Guyo and Darmi hail from the same local church in Dirib Gombo, known as Gombo Evangelical church. The church’s pastor, Kana Dabaso explained how the BSA program has empowered the two children.

With a great smile Pst. Kana states shares that he eventually developed an interest in listening to BSA program every Saturday as a result of the passion he saw in Guyo and Darmi.

As a creative way of sharing their passions with other children, I brought on board the trio to the live studio session that the BSA program airs.

They were overjoyed. Before running the program of the day, I paraphrased some of the bible stories questions that we aired in the past and they all comfortably answered all of them.

This encouraged other children, parents and Sunday school teachers to call in and comment about the program. Engaging with them in the studio, reminded me of the story of Jesus when he was 12 years old.

He was found discussing with elders in the temple, learning and answering questions. Later in his ministry, he said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

No one can fathom the impact the program is having in the lives of the children but we are grateful to God for the growth we are seeing in the lives of these children.

What persons that the program is shaping the children into. Each carried home a small portable radio donated by Sifa FM Marsabit for wisely answering the program questions and as a motivation to their passions for the BSA program. We thank God for the immense impact.
