So why do we have a relationship with God?

Our day to day life is based on various relationships that we have. Be it at work, home, school. From the day we are born we live a life based on a relationship. With the relationship between a child and the mother being the first that most of us encounter while young. A relationship can be defined as the way in which two or more people or things are connected or the state of being connected. Basically, we have a relationship with family, colleagues and friends because there is a connection that we have. A relationship is also built out of time, trust and blood among many other things.

So why do we have a relationship with God? Is it because we love him? Is it because we were raised up in church? Do we just want to fit in? is it the blessings that he offers that attracts us to Him? or are we afraid of hell and having a relationship with God makes us feel safe? If we have a relationship with God what is the connection?

What connects us to God is the fact that he created us. As demonstrated in Genesis chapter 1 and vs 26-part A.

Then God said ‘let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.

The other connection is that God loves us.

Romans 5 vs 8 says:

‘But God demonstrates his own love towards us, in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us’.

We are connected to God because He is what we need most, The book of Acts chapter 17 vs 27 says... ‘So that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for him and find him, though He is not Far from each one of us.’

We are connected to God because our sinful nature leads us away from him… Isaiah 53 vs 6 says: ‘All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all’.

My prayer is that all of us will have a relationship with God; built out of a genuine connection to him. That our relationship will testify to others and He may use it to draw others to Himself.
