TESTIMONY : A WIDOWS HOPE

“The hope I found in Sifa FM radio has kept me growing strong day by day and this is why I Love this station. It’s not possible to love something and not show it. Last year I wrote a poem in praise of Sifa FM and recited it on air, and I meant it from the bottom of my heart.”

9th April is a day Magdalene Njeri will never forget in her life. Like many listeners of Sifa FM Lamu, meeting your favorite radio presenter is one big dream come true.

Ten listeners alongside Njeri were the selected to a short meeting with TWR-Kenya’s guests from Netherlands to share their testimonies and how the station has blessed them.

She shared with us that as she prepared to attend the meeting, she started clearing anything that would make her journey to the station difficult. She washed her favorite long black hijab and a beautiful pink floral headgear that she bought last year in June for Eid al fitr celebration. She also called the station manager to watch out against notorious matatu touts who are fond of raising the fare between Hindi and Mkowe jetty. She insited that should that happen she would not mind walking from her home to the jetty (an 11KM walk) but that was not enough.

In addition to that she also had the same fears for the public boats that ply the Mkowe jetty and Lamu Island route. Some are fond of charging high fare to innocent passengers who may not know the right amount. Unfortunately, she would not be able to walk across the water but said she was going to opt for the larger boats that are slower and carry more people and are less expensive. Nothing was going to stop her from coming for the meeting.

Njeri is a 60 year old widow who loves listening to Sifa FM Lamu. She not only listens but also contributes to the on programs live discussions. Her love for Sifa FM Lamu dates back to the years when TTB Neno was broadcast through Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and right from 2012 when Transworld Radio Kenya began broadcasting in Lamu. She quickly connected the TTB Neno program and the new radio station. The same Transworld Radio Kenya that brought her favorite program on KBC had also brought her a live radio station in Lamu.

During the meeting she shared how Sifa FM was her source of encouragement when her husband died and no one wanted her.
